Massing model 1st iteration
Exercise BRIEF
Consider the examples of massing models that we have added to Google Drive. Working in your Project Groups draw on your research to date, including the site narrative, typology investigations and contamination research to create initial massing models for the site. For now, the massing model should assign areas within your site to each typology as well as public space which will become the fourth element in your project.
iterations
This iteration is a redesign from the first iteration of the massing model. Taking the key element from the first iteration, this iteration intends to enhance connections with the surrounding neighbourhood. Below is a quick sketch of the massing model in procreate, showing the organic form of an extensive movement in the planning. Two exaggerated curvy bridges extend out of the border of the gasworks site, providing a safer transportation method for pedestrians to cross the Alexandra Parade (heavy traffic). It also closens the relationship between the site & Smith street commercial area as well as drawing connection with the Smiths Reserve via an ecological pathway on the rooftop.

For the allocation of the four different typologies, we assign the Secondary high school to the chunk highlighted in dark blue ( in the poster), The reason behind it is that it's within a close distance to Fitzroy Swiming Pool, a public facility which the school can be facilitated with. The ecological garden on the top of commercial provides a variety of recreation to dweller living in the 14 storeys high apartment building; while the plaza at the ground level allows the citizens in Fitzroy to hold big activities like festivals etc. The riding also provides shading over the tram stop at Smith St/Alexandra Prd. We hope this will provide great living, recreation place.
