Exercise BRIEF
Consider some of the current discussions and issues around working and learning from home due to the need to isolate. Taking one of your own precedents as a base, combine one of each of the other typologies to create a hybrid design for living, working and education isolation. In designing your Iso build you should consider the following:
- Your research typology should remain the dominate typology, that is, we should be able to read into the
design what research group you are working with
- Your design should be for an occupancy maximum of 5 people.
- Consider the example of the Rose house where there are two houses joined to cater for different family
groups.
- Include the processes explored in the exercise above and in your review of contamination on site.
- Name your process of contamination ie: merging, parasite and host, DNA exchange,
initiatives
I am taking a different route from the exercise brief, as I find the education precedents is not fun to elaborate on. At the same time, I am really fascinated by the 'The Food Gardener' contamination model in the previous researches. The 'contamination' of garden boxes and the dispocession of residential housing into a workshop, really captures my heart and I emerge the concept into this mini-project. Also, it's worthy to mention the current COVID pandemic situation where we have to stay home for living, work & recreation. The limitation to outside nature is really an issue and we often find the working condition indoor isn't that perfect. Therefore, joining the two ideas together to create a special community recreation/study/garden space, facilitated with adequate ventilation condition, where we can enjoy fresh air & greenery or find a nice place to read a book apart from all the housekeeping activities.

Development
I developed the whole model using the prototype of a terrace house, previously developed from group member Jordan. The reason I choose the terrace house is that in our superblock community, there is a significant amount of these houses, which the ventilation & lighting are not very satisfying. The interior is usually very dark. Therefore, inserting the model into the terrace house & splitting them into two-part, it enhances the circulation in the existing terrace house. I play around with the gardener box-like volumes in vertical dimensions, trying to create an interesting circulation. I also applied the terrace house facade to the 'box', as an intention of embracing the indigenous culture, but in a joyful way. Here are the posters:
